Moving Forward Our Memorial Coliseum

Thank you for your continued interest in the Memorial Coliseum's future. Now listed on the Register of Historic Places, the Memorial Coliseum is, in many ways, the center of the Rose Quarter. A renewed Coliseum will spur additional development at the Rose Quarter, bringing jobs and visitors to the area and positively impacting the central city and the region.
As Chair of the Rose Quarter Development Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC), I am pleased to announce that the concept submission phase of the Memorial Coliseum re-use process is now open. Concepts for the renovation or adaptive reuse of the Memorial Coliseum may be submitted from November 2, 2009 through December 1, 2009 January 8, 2010 using the on-line application form posted on this website.
Concepts for the renovation or adaptive reuse of the Coliseum must complement existing uses at the Rose Quarter as well as exemplify the future vision and urban design principles that have been developed for the area. Please visit our library of reference materials to review this information.
After the January 8 deadline, concepts will be analyzed by the SAC based on evaluation criteria. A public presentation of qualified concepts is slated for January 26, 2010 at the Memorial Coliseum (event details to follow). While not a requirement in the concept phase, in the next phase of the process, in-depth financial information and a qualified development team will be required. Portland City Council will make a decision on the future of the Coliseum in late spring 2010. To review the full Memorial Coliseum Future process, please click here.
Additionally, in late spring 2010, Portland Arena Management (PAM) will lead a process to develop a community-supported Development Strategy for the surrounding Rose Quarter. To learn more about the direction of PAM's planning efforts, please visit their website at www.imaginejumptown.com.
Thank you again for your interest in this important effort. My SAC colleagues and I look forward to all of the innovative and unique concepts you have to share.
Sincerely,
Sam Adams
Mayor, City of Portland
